The system is designed for dynamic microgrid operation. Our fuel cells can ramp from standby to full power in under 5 seconds, and the electrolyzer can modulate its input power from 10% to 100% in response to renewable generation fluctuations. When paired with a battery (which provides sub-second response), the hydrogen system handles the sustained energy balancing.

Lithium-ion batteries excel at short-duration applications—frequency regulation, peak shaving, and providing backup power for minutes to a few hours. Hydrogen storage, by contrast, decouples power and energy. You can store massive amounts of energy (in hydrogen tanks) without proportionally increasing the cost of power conversion equipment. This makes hydrogen the most cost-effective solution for inter-day, multi-day, and seasonal storage, where batteries would be prohibitively expensive or physically unfeasible.
